Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 2, the 2nd generation smartwatch along with two new Apple iPhone devices. From the outside, the Apple Watch Series 2 looks the same as its predecessor. The only difference in the design is that the Apple Watch Series 2 is water resistant to depths of 50 meters, which means you can swim while wearing the Watch. Inside the company has completely redesigned the second series Apple Watch.
Apple Watch Series 2 specs & features
The notable improvements in the specs sheet includes a dual core processor and better graphics that according to Apple are twice as fast as the original. It is yet to be seen how it compares to other Watches like the Samsung Gear S3 Classic performance wise. Another great improvement under the hood is the addition of the GPS which can be used to measure pace, distance and speed while running or biking. The display on the Apple Watch Series 2 has also been improved and is according to Apple now two times brighter (at over 1000 nits) than the original Apple Watch.
Apple said nothing about the battery life which is the most important factor while considering a smartwatch. The original Apple Watch has faced frequent criticism for its poor battery and it is very important that Apple Watch two performs better in this department. Since, the new Apple Watch also includes a GPS which will affect the battery life. Apple should have addressed this issue. The Apple Watch does not includes LTE and hence cannot be used independently of your smartphone.
Apple Watch Series 2 Software & Interface
The Apple Watch Series 2 comes with WatchOS 3 which coupled with the new faster processor should improve app performance and also navigating through the interface. Apple boasts that the watchOS 3 makes the watch capable of accurately calculating swimming workouts and burnt calories putting the water resistance to a use. The WatchOS 3 will also arrive on the older Apple Watch models on September 13.
