While Nokia sold its mobile devices division to Microsoft, Nokia still has got its love for mobile phones and surprisingly Android. Today Nokia revealed its own contextual Z Launcher for Android. This launcher does not come from Nokia that has gone under Microsoft control. The core purpose of Z Launcher is to give you a short list of relevant apps, reminders and contacts on your home screen. Z Launcher will keep track of your activities and thus list relevant apps that you use a lot, contacts that you have last contacted with and give you reminders.

Z Launcher shows you six apps or contacts based on a number of attributes which includes your location, time and who you have been calling based on your phone’s call logs. The developer promises that over time the app will be able to guess better using your usage history.

Another great functionality is some basic handwriting recognition. Now you don’t need to go to the app drawer look for your desired app and then run it, or type the name of the app in Google search widget on your home screen. With Z Launcher you can open apps easily by just tracing the or handwriting the first one or two letters on the home screen and then tap on the app as it appears. The company is using MyScript for handwriting recognition.

The lead product manager of Nokia’s emerging platforms group, Brook Eaton said, that it is very difficult for people keeping organised and finding their desired app as they  download and install more and more apps on their devices. Instead of using folders, Nokia decided to use the home screen for better organization.

The launcher is currently optimized just for Samsung Galaxy S5, Nexus 5, Galaxy S4, Moto X, HTC One and Xperia Z1, The launcher may also be compatible with a few more  devices but, you may experience some glitches. However you cannot install it on a rooted device. Also the launcher is yet in a pre-release beta so don’t expect it to be error free even on the supported devices mentioned above. You can download and install Z launcher by visiting  the Z launcher website through your phone. Link to Z Launcher website is given in the source below
